Take part in our sponsored events - win positive change for the world's poor and have fun along the way

Doing a sponsored event is a great way to support WDM while having the time of your life. We have arranged some events you can take part in or you can organise your own.

Arrange your own event

In previous years, WDM supporters have run in the London Marathon and raced the London Triathlon to raise money for WDM. If that sounds a bit too energetic why not organise a charity dinner party, have a coffee morning, cake sale or hold a pub quiz?

What ever you want to do, WDM can help you along the way with fundraising advice and tips about how to publicise your event.

For more information on these events or to tell us about your own event, call us on 0800 328 2153 or use the contact form below.

Use your electricity bill to fight climate change

Switch to Ecotricity and they will donate £60 - £40 for electricity and £20 for gas - to WDM,  plus you’ll get four free energy saving light bulbs. Ecotricity promises to match the standard price of each regional supplier, so you won’t pay a premium to switch.

Turning bills into windmills…

Ecotricity are dedicated to changing the way electricity is made, building new wind turbines and harnessing wind energy that doesn’t pollute and won’t run out. Our climate is changing and it is in all our interests to move away from fossil fuels. Join Ecotricity now - the more customers it has, the more money it can invest in renewable energy.

Here at WDM we believe in climate justice. Ecotricity’s generosity will help us lobby the UK government to help developing countries tackle the effects of climate change. By persuading them to give adaptation money as grants not loans, we hope to reduce new debt for those countries already overburdened by debt.

To switch go to www.ecotricity.co.uk/wdm or call free on 08000 302 302 and quote ‘WDM’.

Leave a legacy

We've campaigned most of our lives for justice for the world's poor. So it makes sense to leave money in our Wills to the World Development Movement. Our children are already well established and this is such a good cause. We are hugely encouraged that the campaign we joined way back in the 1970s to end world poverty has made such progress and is now stronger than ever.

We have been lucky to be able to buy our own house. When we die we'd like to think that WDM will be helped by a significant donation from our estate. The need for an effective campaigning organisation to tackle global poverty and injustice seems certain to outlive us. We hope others of our generation will leave a legacy to the World Development Movement too.""

Help tackle the root causes of hunger

As Christmas approaches some people in the UK are struggling to afford food, but millions in the world’s poorest countries are finding their plates empty because of a huge injustice.

In Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia thousands of children are malnourished and valuable livestock have died due to a lethal combination of rocketing food prices and drought.

You can help prevent this desperate situation from happening again.

Unchecked by our government, bankers and other financial speculators are betting on food in financial markets, causing dramatic rises in the cost of food and contributing to an increase in global hunger.

The cost of food in Kenya and around the world has hit a new record high.

Jane Anmyango, a campaigner from Kibera in Kenya said that food prices had tripled in 2008. Her eldest son said to her, “Mum, if there’s not enough, let the children have it.”

It’s heartbreaking and unfair that Jane and others like her are not able to adequately feed themselves or their families.

The good news is, just-released European proposals contain big steps forward to make food commodity markets more transparent and help regulators see what’s going on. But the proposals don’t go far enough to prevent financial traders pushing up the price of food.

By giving a gift of £30 this Christmas, you can help us tackle the root causes of hunger.

Your gift can help us put pressure on George Osborne for strong and effective regulation. Without strict limits on the profiteering of banks and hedge funds, lives are at stake.

With your help, we will be pulling out all the stops to regulate the financial industry’s activities, which are currently being allowed to ruin lives worldwide.

Your donation could help pay for the following activities:
