Dear Steve Bywater, chief executive of Global Coal Management, I am writing to object to your involvement in the Phulbari open-cast mine in Bangladesh. The Phulbari mine will force more than 40,000 people off their land, damage the water supply of thousands of people and take away land vital for food production. Bangladesh is already suffering from increased flooding and rising sea levels, as a result of climate change that has been caused mainly by rich countries. Local people do not want this open-cast coal mine. Three people have already been killed in protests to resist it. I demand that you pull out of the Phulbari open-cast mine project, and stop undermining the future of Bangladesh. I look forward to hearing from you.
