Public Successes

public tap logoThe solution to the global water crisis is simple really, with 95 per cent of piped water currently in public hands, to get water to the most people we have to give political and financial backing to reforming the public sector.

This is possible. Public utilities are undergoing reform across the world. In Africa, Latin America and Asia there are many examples of clean affordable water being delivered to those in most desperate need. When given sufficient support public utilities have demonstrated themselves to be transparent, accountable and more efficient than their private sector counterparts.

WDM welcomed the announcement on World Water Day 2007 that the UK government would start supporting not-for-profit partnerships between utilities.
