Food campaign news
Make George Osborne boogie!
With your help, we want to get a dance troop of George Osbornes to boogie on down in Parliament Square for a day.
George is not the best dancer, but with your help we hope he can improve. Move your mouse over him to see him groove.
But why you might ask?
Because we are about to run a large online campaign to get the government to regulate food speculation and we want it to start off with a bang (or in this case, a boogie). We are convinced that with your help we can put pressure on George Osborne and the Treasury to stop bankers gambling on food.
Help us make George strike a pose!
Can you help us raise £3,651? If 145 people donate £25 each, we will be able to put on an eye catching and rather amusing stunt that will get the media and policy makers in Westminster to take notice.
If you give £50 or more we will include your name in the credits of the campaign video (if you want to be associated with such tomfoolery that is).
What is this all about again?
We’re not blaming it on the boogie. We’re blaming it on George Osborne and the UK government.
Because they are allowing rich people to get richer while poor people starve.
In the last six months of 2010 alone, more than 44 million people were driven into extreme poverty as a result of rising food prices. At the same time, banks and financial investors are making a killing speculating on food.
The US government has already passed legislation to curb food speculation and the European Commission is planning to do the same. But the UK Treasury, headed up by our very own George Osborne, is failing to support reform.
How much shall I donate?
It’s up to you but this is the sort of thing you can help us buy:
- £600 will get us the permit to hold the stunt in Westminster
- £250 will get us a cameraman/woman for a day
- £100 will get us one dancing George Osborne for a day
- £20 will get us one George Osborne mask
Help us get George Osborne to strike a pose and win justice for the world’s poor! You know it makes sense!
PS. If we go over our target for this appeal (which would be great!), we will use any additional donations to further support our campaigns.
