Represent WDM in your region: become an area rep
The World Development Movement (WDM) is one of the UK’s leading campaigning organisations winning positive change for the world's poorest people. We have 52 local groups around the country across ten regions that carry out our campaigns.
As a volunteer area rep, you will help us develop our regional activism and provide communication between our local groups in your area and the head office in London. The role is a really important part of WDM’s democracy and the movement. You don’t have to have years of experience of campaigning or of being involved in a WDM group, just a desire to get stuck in and help us all be the most effective campaigning organisation we can be. We will provide you with travel expenses for WDM events and the area reps’ annual meeting which takes place in London. There may also be some training opportunities and we will offer you a reference for related paid work.
It’s a great chance to find out more about WDM and its campaigns, and to get involved with strengthening local activism in your area.
We are currently looking for reps to cover the following regions:
- Chilterns & East Anglia (Cambridge, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire)
- South-East (Hampshire, Surrey, Kent, West Sussex and East Sussex)
Being an area representative has given me the opportunity to work not just locally, but across a whole region. As area rep, you’re really involved in the genuine consultative and democratic process that is at the heart of WDM and you help facilitate and connect local groups in your region. Thanks to the role, I gained invaluable networking and coordinating experience, as well as increased confidence, that I’ve been able to use both on my CV and in new jobs.
Julieanne Porter, Oxford (East Anglia & Chilterns Area Rep)
