Whose Rules Rule?
World Development Movement conference
Saturday 30 June 2007
University of Leeds
1pm to 6pm (AGM beforehand)

There are some travel disruptions for routes to and from Leeds due to flooding. For train updates see National Rail Enquiries or general updates from Transport Direct.
This year WDM’s Whose Rules Rule? conference will explore activism past, present and future – by celebrating and learning from global justice campaigns. Speakers include Ngugi wa Thiong'o, George Monbiot, Mohau Pheko and Esther Stanford.
2007 is the bicentenary of the parliamentary abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. It’s an opportunity to reflect on our past and learn lessons for the present and the future. Two hundred years of campaigning and resistance – and two hundred years of ongoing global injustice.
We will explore the lessons to be learned from the struggle to end the slave trade. We will share our vision of how today’s inequality is built on past abuses of power. And we will celebrate the unsung heroes of the fight against historical and contemporary injustice.
Come and find out more about….
- Reparations and the legacy of enslavement
- Apartheid
- Climate justice
- Struggles against privatisation
- Music and protest
- Women’s rights
- Migration
- Corporate globalisation
The conference will include our keynote speakers giving their own perspectives on activism, smaller sessions led by experienced campaigners and activists, “The Other Globalisation” photographic exhibition and a wide range of campaign stalls.
Other information
Please note that WDM’s Annual General Meeting will take place at the same venue from 11am to 12.30pm and is open to all WDM groups and members.
