Respond to the government's energy announcment and stop dirty coal

The government announced today that they will not rule out new dirty coal in the UK. New coal power stations will be allowed to go ahead with only a fraction of their emissions subject to carbon capture and storage (CCS), a technology which is still unproven in this context.

When (or if) CCS is proven coal power stations will be required to fit 100 per cent CCS within five years. However, there is no guarantee of when this technology will be proven, if ever.
